WESTERN REGION

The Western Region is one of the 16 administrative regions of Ghana. The Region used to be part of the Western Province but was carved out of the then Central Region in July 1960 with Sekondi as its administrative capital. On 27^th December 2018 after a referendum, the Western North was carved out of the Western Region and the present-day Western Region was established via Constitutional Instrument (CI) 117. It shares common borders with La Cote d’Ivoire on the west, the Central Region in the East, Western North in the North and the Gulf of Guinea (Atlantic Ocean) in the South. The Southernmost part of Ghana, Cape Three Points near Busua in the Ahanta West District, is located in the region.

The Ghana Immigration Service is one of the dominant security institutions in the Western Region in terms of visibility regarding its Offices, Command Posts and installations dotted across the 4 Districts, 9 Municipalities, and a Metropolitan Assembly (14MMDAs).
