The Upper East Region was created in September, 1983 after the splitting of the Northern Region into the Upper and Northern Regions on July 1, 1960 when Ghana became a Republic.  The Upper East Region is located at the Northern Eastern part of Ghana with its regional capital as Bolgatanga. DCOI Theophilus Tettey Laryea is the Regional Commander.

 THE MAJOR FUNCTIONS /STRATEGIC GOALS AND OBJECTIVES

Maintains oversight responsibility over all Immigration installation and controls in the region in respect of operational duties, administrative responsibility, staff welfare

1. Corporate with REGSEC to effectively handle all security matters relating to the region.
2. Ensure the enforcement of all immigration laws in respect of foreigners staying, working or schooling in the region.
3. Maintain a proper correspondence with the national Headquarters in respect of all activities within the region.
