The Ashanti Region by its geographical position is a land-locked Region Sandwiched by other Regions namely Bono East to the North, Western Region to the West, Eastern Region to the east and Central Region to the South. Administratively, the region is divided into forty-three (43) Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies

The Ashanti Regional command of the Ghana Immigration Service is located at the heart of the capital City Adum, Kumasi. DCOI Charles Yaw Bediako is the Regional Commander.

MAJOR FUNCTIONS OF THE REGIONAL COMMAND, SECTORS, AND DISTRICTS

1. To process permits for foreigners within the region, be it students, workers or visitors.
2. To ensure foreigners in the region have necessary documents to stay, (hotel and company inspections).
3. To represent the Headquarters and enforce Immigration laws in the region.
4. Serves as Regional Administration and liaison to Sectors, checkpoints, borders etc.
5. To contribute to Regional security.
6. The Migration Information Center serves as an information center for residents and migrants and sensitizes the community on migration related issues.

SECTORS UNDER THE COMMAND

The Ashanti Regional Command superintends over the duties of the following Sectors and Districts which also includes the Airport, Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology and the Kumasi Passport Center.
