The Western North Regional Command

WESTERN NORTH REGION

The Western North Region is one of the six new regions created in 2019, carved out from the Western Region. The Regional capital is Sefwi Wiawso which is the central hub for administrative and economic activities. It is situated in the western part of the country and bordered by Ivory Coast to the West, the Central Region to the Southeast, Bono East, Ahafo and the Ashanti Region to the North.

The Regional Commander is DCOI Augustus Gyamfi Acheampong. The Western North Regional Command oversees nine (9) administrative municipalities and districts in the Region. These include the Sefwi Wiawso, Aowin, Suaman, Bia East, Bia West, Juaboso, Bodi, Akontombra and Bibiani-Anhwiasi-Bekwai.

FUNCTIONS OF THE REGIONAL COMMAND.

  1. Receive and forward fresh applications for residence permit to Headquarters
  2. Extend visitors permit for up to three months
  3. Administer the Districts/Municipal and Sector Commands within the Regions
  4. Ensure effective control, patrol and monitoring of international borders of the Region.
  5. Ensure the integrity and security of Ghana’s borders by preventing illegal cross-border activities such as unauthorized migration, smuggling and trafficking of goods and firearms.
  6. Perform enforcement/intelligence duties in the Regions
  7. Ensure that gender issues are appropriately covered in accordance with the service protocols.
  8. See to the effective day to day operations and administration of the region.
  1. The Command collaborates with other security agencies like Customs, NIB, the Ghana Police and other stakeholders like border residents like the Chiefs, Assembly Members, local folks among others to collect and gather intelligence to inform operations and strategic planning.
  2. Performs enforcement functions to ensure compliance to immigration law by companies and expatriates leaving in the jurisdiction.
  3. Work with other security agencies such as the Ghana Police Service, Customs and the Ghana Armed Forces to maintain law and order.
  4. The Command on routine basis collaborate with local communities to gather information on some unscrupulous activities of some border residents they may no off.
  5. Educate these Communities on the duties, functions and the mandate of Immigration Officers particularly along the border zones.
  6. Comply and submits annual, quarterly, daily and incidents reports for further actions.
