KOTOKA INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT (KIA) COMMAND
 
The Kotoka International Airport (KIA) remains Ghana’s only functional International Airport and the flagship border control post of the Service due to its strategic position in the aviation sector management and the volume of human traffic it handles.
The mandate of KIA command includes the processing of passengers through arrival/departure controls, ensure document security, and provide statistical data.
The Command is currently under the leadership of Deputy Commissioner of Immigration (DCI) Eric Afari with Chief Superintendent (CSI) Frederick Baah Duodu as the second-in-command.

Head of Command

OPERATIONAL STREAM

  1. The operational stream undertakes the core mandate of the command as provided for in the Act 573 of 2000 - thus the screening and processing of all arriving and departing passengers by:
    1. Examining travelers entering or leaving the country
    2. Issuing visas (entry and Transit Visas)
    3. Collaborating with stakeholders including intelligence agencies

 The main operational activities are performed at the following locations:

  • Arrival and Departure Halls
  • Emergency Entry Visa booth
  • VVIP/Jubilee Lounge
  • Transit desk
  • Document Fraud office
  • Management Information System (MIS) office
  • Airport Communication Project (AIRCOP) Desk
  • Hajj Enclave

Arrival Control/Processing
On arrival, passengers who meet all visa requirements are entreated to fill out embarkation/disembarkation (ED) card and proceed to the booths (with various designations) to be cleared electronically through a passenger processing system.
Emergency Entry Visa (EEV) Booth
Emergency Entry Visas (EEVs) and transit visas are issued on arrival to passengers who are unable to obtain visas from the Ghana missions abroad.
Transit Desk
A transit desk is available to handle transit passengers who have to connect flights to their final destinations.
VVIP/Jubilee Lounge
The VVIP Lounge is where government officials, diplomats, and other important personalities are processed when arriving or departing the country.
The Jubilee Lounge handles the arrivals and departures of Heads of State and other very high profile personalities.

 


Departure Control
All departing passengers who meet the requisite travel requirements are processed at the departure control.

The Hajj Enclave
This is a special facility established to process all Muslim pilgrims to and from Saudi Arabia.

Front Desk Office
The front desk office receives correspondence on EEV from HQ, visa on arrival applications and payments and also handles all enquires.

Document Fraud Office
The document fraud unit is one of the main operational units of the Command. The Fraud Unit performs many functions such as document examination and analysis as well as profiling. The Unit also offers advice to passengers on the benefits of regular migration and the dangers associated with irregular migration.
Management Information Systems [MIS]
The MIS performs the under listed functions to support other units in ensuring the smooth operation of the Command.

      • Design, deploy, maintain and monitor computer networks.
      • Generates Statistical Report among others.
